Ah, now I see what you were referring to. For whatever reason my mind was trying to match your words with a passage from Something Wicked This Way Comes (and inevitably coming up empty doing so). It hadn't crossed my mind that you had been exposed to this other story. A vastly substandard story.
I actually dusted that story off for the first time in years on my trip back. It seemed like an appropriate time to revisit it (considering I would be riding THE train, albeit in the opposite direction). Anyway, I couldn't make it past page 30. Painfully bad. Perhaps I've changed far too much to enjoy such a tale. I tell darker stories now, though with characters who are just as desperate :)
