California's Gold

These are Aspen trees.  They are this color from late September to mid-October.

Panum Crater

Last erupted around 1500.  It is bordered to the north by Mono Lake, and a whole lot of desert to the south.  If you like obsidian, you will find plenty of it here.  If you like to heckle deer, that can be done here also.

Mono Lake

Mark Twain called Mono Lake the Dead Sea of California.  It is 70 square miles.  You won't find one fish.  You will find tufa.

Little Lakes Valley

Trailhead: 10,300 feet.  Entryway to the John Muir Wilderness in the Inyo National Forest.  Due to the government shutdown the bathrooms at the trail's entrance were locked. The trail itself remained unlocked.

The Eastern Sierra

I had to get out of town for a few days.
