Today, I stepped out of my apartment to the sound of emergency sirens echoing around me. I looked up to see five news helicopters hovering above like curious dragonflies.

My plan had been to go to the library. Instead, I grabbed my camera and followed the sirens.

It was at this point that my camera battery went dead, so I decided to retreat. The fire continues to burn.

for a second I thought with all the siren commotion and news helicopters you forgot to get dressed or something?!

I have three things to say:
1. Your photo is better than the one they have on Yahoo News.
2. You don't have a spare battery???
3. "evacuation of the city's largest park and zoo" - now, THAT would give a lot of Kodak moments...

Rhonda, I couldn't help it. I was really in the mood for smores.

Mendacious, my little pyro friend, I knew you would appreciate this.

Nava, sadly there is no spare battery. The camera isn't even mine and I hardly know how to use it. You should hear the fuss I make over it, especially the damned auto-focus. I don't need a microchip telling me what's the proper focal point. As far as the evacuations, I wish it would have been as dramatic as you envision, people hysterically fleeing with arms waving above their head. Giraffes, zebras running loose.

When your fire pictures popped up on my screen, so did the song from Fiddler on the Roof: A blessing on your head, mazel tov, mazel tov.

Be safe,

Roo

I can here The Count from Sesame Street in my head saying "Five! Five Red Fire Engines. Ha, Hah, Hahh!" Do you think I've been reading too many children's books?
